Many young people who leave foster care for college have overcome tremendous challenges while maintaining their grades at school and remaining focused on their goals. This is a tremendous accomplishment.
The Friends Scholarship helps those students to realize their dreams, rewards them for a job well done, and lets them know that many people have faith in them and in their ability to persevere.
Friends of GAL focuses on helping young people to break the cycle of poverty. Education is one way to accomplish that goal. For many of these students, they will be the first in their families to attend college. Often, a Friends Scholarship is the first confirmation that their goals are realistic and achievable.
Encourage a deserving student to succeed.
