Friends of Wake exists to

change the lives of abused and neglected children by supporting the work of Guardians ad Litem

Current statistics

25% of children in foster care experience being homeless.

1 in 4 children in foster care will experience PTSD at some point in their lives.

75% of women aging out of foster care become mothers before the age of 21.

There are 500-600 children in Foster Care in Wake County.

Only 2% of children in foster care receive a bachelor's degree or higher.

Only half of the youths aging out of foster care will be employed by the age of 24.

45% of individuals that spend over half of their childhood in poverty are poor. 

Our programs fill the gap left by the county.

Education advocacy, backpacks, computers, camp grants, orthodontic care, and Christmas gifts are some of the things we are able to fund for children in foster care in our community.

Our mission is to enhance the lives of at-risk children and their caregivers through programs which promote their physical, educational, and emotional well-being, and to raise funds and otherwise provide assistance for the use and benefit of the Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program in representing and serving abused, neglected and dependent children.
